The caregiving role often evolves over time. The caregiver takes on more and more responsibilities, not realizing how involved he or she has become. For others, caregiving comes in a time of crisis, unplanned and unexpected. A sudden illness can turn an independent older person into someone who needs assistance on a daily basis.
The Community Care Program also provides for ‘Preferred Homecare Aides’. Preferred homecare aides are family members or friends of the family who are trained to provide the services required by the Plan of Care. Therefore, there is the opportunity for individuals, who may already be providing such care, to receive compensation for those efforts.
The Hellenic Foundation assists in the application and training for the ‘Preferred Home Aide’ program.
