St. Athanasios & St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church

Organization:         Saints Athanasios & John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 4200 N. Keeler, Chicago, IL 60641.  A Metochion Church (Dependency) of the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St Irene Chrysovalantou, based in New York, under jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, following the new calendar since 1998. The church supports its self through the revenues derived from several annual events: Dinner dance; Annual Festival; St. Irene Icon visit; Liturgical services; Lunches and Dinners; Greek Night.  The Church is led by the Rev. Fr. Georgios Kostopoulos, who has been the presiding priest since January 2015.

Program:        The grant award would fund the first year’s salary of an office secretary who would handle the day to day organizational duties of the Church.  The specific job description is as follows: To maintain and process accounts payable; Perform all necessary clerical duties; Assist parishioners with sacraments and services; Assisting the priest and the ecclesiastical committee on marketing events, special projects and events; Assist with all fundraising events and soliciting necessary donations. With an office secretary, the Church is expected to grow its number of votaries through improved communication, and daily office hours to provide more effective services to the Greek community.
