Caregivers Support Group Seminar Made Possible by a Grant from the Hellenic Foundation

On April 22, the Caregivers Support Group of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, Westchester, Illinois, hosted a one-half day seminar for those taking care of loved ones.

Val Dranias and Kathy Steffenson, founders of this critical ministry, organized expert speakers that covered many important topics including caring for the caregiver, hospice care, and understanding relevant legal documents. The presentation also provided information regarding how other parishes can start their own caregiver support group. This seminar was of no cost to attendees and was made possible by a Grant from the Hellenic Foundation. Also in attendance were Hellenic Foundation Executive Director Peter Valessares and In-Home Care Manager Tasia Phassos.

The Caregiver Support Group has been a vital Holy Apostles Church ministry since 2017, helping those who are faced with the challenge of caring for elderly parents, disabled family members, loved ones with dementia/Alzheimer’s, or critical/terminal illnesses. Caregiver Support meetings provide attendees from throughout the Chicago area with significant information on relevant topics, share resources and advice, and provide much-needed fellowship for family caregivers. The next seminar will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 South Wolf Road, Westchester, Illinois.

The Hellenic Foundation is proud to support this vital community ministry. More information can be found at www.holyapostleschurch.com/ministries/caregivers
