Back in 2020, the Hellenic Foundation’s Grant Program awarded the St. Iakovos Retreat Center a grant to fund a brand new basketball court. Today, this basketball court has allowed their organization and youth ministries, such as Fanari Camp, to bring our youth together and allow them to follow their faith in Christ. The impact we are able to make throughout Chicagoland’s Greek and Pan-Orthodox community is what motivates us to do what we do. In the parish's 60+ years, St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church has grown to be one of the largest Greek Orthodox Churches in the Metropolis of Chicago. Its main church, chapel, gym, community center, and education and ministry building accommodates more than 700 steward families and hundreds of children. During the pandemic, St. John the Baptist and local charities have experienced a significant increase in requests for assistance with prepared food and nonperishables. The Hellenic Foundation is proud to support the Feed My Neighbor program that aims to reduce the food instability experienced by Greek Americans and Orthodox Christians, along with anyone in need, in Des Plaines and surrounding areas.
