The Hellenic Foundation’s Community Care Program allows seniors to remain in their homes, maintaining a comfortable living situation with the support of an Aide who helps clients manage responsibilities that become more challenging with age. We are impressed with our clients’ cooperation with the new COVID-19 procedures and want to highlight their participation and give you a behind-the-scenes look into their experience within our Community Care Program.
Jeannette Daly has been receiving services from the Hellenic Foundation for over a year. Before transitioning into receiving in-home services, she worked as a caregiver for over 35 years and understands the importance of maintaining a positive attitude despite any unexpected challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although the pandemic has increased isolation, Daly does not feel lonely in the program because of the strong bond she shares with her Homecare Aide, Maureen Ledger. When asked about her relationship with Ledger, she expressed, “Marureen has a big heart. She knows more about me than I do. We bounce off each other which keeps me smiling and laughing”. Ledger also schedules video calls with Daly’s family so she can stay connected with loved ones in a safe manner.
The Community Care Program offers seniors a variety of benefits to help maintain their quality of life by assisting them with some of the tasks they can no longer complete on their own. Daly explained, “the care I receive has made a positive impact in my life, along with the delicious home-cooked meals”. Daly’s Homecare Aide helps her with a variety of day-to-day tasks, such as laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping, and doctor’s appointments. She feels a great amount of support and care within the program and has even recommended friends of hers to enroll.
